About Andi's Basement

Hello, my name is Robert and I am one of the founders of Andi's Basement. I love living in Washington DC, inside the bustle of the beltway. I feed off of the great restaurants and the general energy that city the offers. Despite all the city has to offer, I definitely sacrifice space. I am a hobbyist and enjoy golfing in the summers, skiing in the winters, and camping when I can get away. The equipment for my hobbies has laid around my various one bedroom apartments. For my first apartment in the Columbia Heights neighborhood, the single closet could hide many of my belongings. However, as the time went by, I started to collect more and more gear that spilled over into the living room.

When I moved in with my wife, a hockey player, into a one bedroom apartment in DuPont Circle a crisis arose. We had shared a storage unit outside the city with family, where transferred some of the redundancies from merging households. She rightfully did not want to keep her hockey bag outside of the city, in case her team needed her in a pinch. But city living simply does not provide storage for hockey bags. An agreement was reached in which I was able to keep my golf clubs in the living room and my wife could keep her hockey bag there as well. As I would visit friends in the city, I noticed that many of them also had various items in the corner of the living room and other places. Everything doesn’t quite fit in a tiny coat closet, if a coat closet even exists.

I visited my storage unit outside of Washington DC once a year. I hated going to it because it is always a mess – unorganized and inaccessible. The whole process was painful, from finding the keys for the building, fighting the traffic, and struggling with my iPhone flashlight in the darkness of the inside of the unit. I began dreaming of taking out each item, piece by piece, to take photos and create text tags. I eventually found a free weekend and made use of my camera. While getting to the unit isn’t enjoyable, at least I know which items I have in storage now.

During my MBA program, the idea dawned on me – a company that took care of your storage needs for you. No more fighting the rush hour traffic and the rifling through old, dusty furniture. I built out a concept and molded it into a business plan. I had the blessed fortune of having great classmates that shared their experiences and ideas with me. In one of my classes, I practiced delivering a live pitch to my fellow classmates. Two students had vocal feedback, and they soon joined me in forming Blue Ocean Services Inc., the parent company for Andi's Basement. While Walt brought decades of technology experience, Paul offered financial and legal advice to together make Andi's Basement a reality - Andi's Basement was founded in 2018.

Andi's Basement provides a concierge storage solution allowing you to have a clutter-free living area in the city and have your special belongings available when you need them without the hassles of other storage options. When you come home from a scuba trip in the Fiji islands, store your gear and save it for next time. When clearing the house for the holiday party, keep the golf clubs in storage until the Spring. Andi's Basement also happily accepts hockey bags and for some strange reason, our employees take special care of hockey equipment.

I look forward to building your trust as we serve you. Please contact me with feedback and letting me know how we are doing. We want to help you "Lighten Up", so that you can "Live your best life"!

Warm regards,
Robert, CEO and Founder Andi's Basement
